The PHYSICIAN LIAISON is responsible for directly contacting area physicians in their offices and is responsible for communication with other service areas which are capable of influencing utilization such as physicians’ office personnel. This position is used to assist in improving customer satisfaction in areas which directly affect the hospital’s ability to attract physicians. Therefore, the PHYSICIAN LIAISON is expected to spend approximately 70% of his or her time in the field working independently and meeting weekly with the CEO to communicate recommendations for changes in procedures and facilities, and report on achieved results, problems, and new opportunities which will contribute to increased utilization of services.
Qualified candidates must demonstrate personal initiative, poise, confidence, accept challenge, and possess a proven hospital/sales background. Possesses persuasive negotiating skills; articulate in written and oral communication. Knowledge of physicians, their referral patterns and hospital very helpful. Must also possess good time management and organizational skills and be customer and results oriented. Good listening skills mandatory.
Skills and Knowledge
A thorough knowledge of hospital services/operations; new developments in the healthcare industry, especially those effecting physician practices; strong leadership and communication techniques.
Education

Physician Liaison
Reporting to the Director of Physician Relations, the Physician Liaison is responsible for the development, management and implementation of physician relations and business development activities in alignment with the strategic plan of St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. The primary responsibility of this position is to develop and maintain strong referral relationships between the hospital and community-based physicians throughout the region. The Physician Liaison is responsible for developing hospital and practice plan referral relationships with community-based pediatricians and to a much lesser extent, specialty physicians. The overall goal of the position is to increase hospital and practice plan referrals. This position functions independently and requires the ability to work well with others, manage and meet deadlines and work on multiple projects and events concurrently.
Interested candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience in physician relations, network development or a similar role in hospital marketing or business development. Experience in an academic hospital environment is preferred. The ability to interact with physicians, physician extenders and office staff in a professional manner is required. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent presentation skills and the ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships. The successful candidate will be an organized individual able to handle a very busy environment with minimal supervision. Must have a strong knowledge of referral dynamics, physician and hospital marketplace issues and overall understanding of hospital operations. A PA driver’s license is required.
