The American Association of Physician Liaisons grew out of the University Hospital Consortium Annual Physician Relations Group Meeting which began gathering annually in June 1995. The first meeting was held in Chicago and brought together approximately 30 individuals. The group met regularly for the next five years, sharing concerns and building the professional relationships that would lead to the creation of AAPL.
The meeting in Houston, TX at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center on June 13, 2000 really brought the discussion on incorporation to a head. Through the diligence of Ann Hollingsworth, the group became an official American Association of Physician Liaisons, Inc in the State of Tennessee on July 25, 2000 as a not for profit professional organization.
By-laws were written and approved by the first board of directors made up of the following:

Lyle Green: MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX
